Famous for their colossal statues and remarkable history, the temples were carefully relocated in the 1960s to protect them from the rising waters of Lake Nasser, making them one of the world’s greatest archaeological rescue projects.

Accompanied by a professional Egyptologist guide, you’ll learn about the reign of Ramesses II, the significance of the Great Temple, and the smaller temple dedicated to Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor. Admire the impressive carvings, towering statues, and beautifully preserved reliefs while uncovering the stories behind one of Egypt’s most iconic landmarks.

Abu Simbel Temples

Upon arrival, explore the spectacular Abu Simbel Temples, built during the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses II in the 13th century BC. The Great Temple is famous for its four colossal seated statues of Ramesses II carved directly into the mountainside, while the nearby Temple of Queen Nefertari is dedicated to the king’s beloved wife and the goddess Hathor.

Inside the temples, admire beautifully preserved reliefs depicting military victories, religious ceremonies, and scenes from the pharaoh’s reign. Your Egyptologist guide will explain the fascinating history of the temples, their symbolic significance, and the incredible UNESCO-led relocation project that saved them from flooding after the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
